Dear Chief of Police:

Kent State University, with the support of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), is seeking to reevaluate the role of law enforcements in responding to statutory rape. It is believed that the unique characteristics of varying departments’ policies and procedures may influence how statutory rape incidences are tracked and recorded by law enforcement. As a result, we are conducting a state-wide assessment of Ohio law enforcement officers’ experiences with statutory rape complaints. The information obtained from this assessment will serve as a basis to gauge community safety and policing needs relative to statutory rape in Ohio.

We invite you and your officers to take part in an on-line survey designed to capture your professional experiences with statutory rape. As the chief of police, your cooperation is vital to obtaining the participation of your officers. The survey will be administered through the on-line survey intermediary, “Survey Monkey”. Survey Monkey captures and stores all data from the surveys so that you and your officers’ remain anonymous to Kent State University researchers. We are asking that you forward the survey link to the service men and women within your department.

We appreciate your busy schedule so this survey is designed to take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Please encourage your officers to complete the survey within one week of receiving this link.
